McCook Cup semi final
RBL 4 - 3 CARR-BRIDGE ![]()
Carr-bridge began the 2008 season with a very strong team, even with a couple of influential missing players.
All began well enough for the visitors with several good chances being created and taken in the first 15 minutes and the players competing well all over the pitch. This was rewarded shortly afterwards with a well-worked goal duly despatched by Gary McGeoch but created by Edwards, Harrower and McInnes. However Carr-bridge seemed to lose their way after this and RBL duly equalised shortly before the interval to leave the score 1-1 at half time.
Just after the break things got worse for the visitors as RBL went 2-1 ahead, but this seemed to spur Carr-bridge back into life and Marcus Forrest opened his account with an equalising goal. The game then ebbed and flowed at either end, culminating with RBL regaining the lead 3-2. This prompted Carr-bridge into making changes, with McIntosh replacing Rose and Simpson swapping the bench with McGeoch, and the new 3-5-2 formation paid dividends with Simpson scoring on his debut with a 25 yard screamer 5 minutes from time to level the game 3-3.
However, as a draw and extra time seemed on the cards, RBL won the game with virtually the last kick of the ball. An unstopable free-kick from the edge of the box bulleted past a helpless MacDonald into the back of the net and saw RBL through to the final 4-3 winners.
