Tomatin Cup Final

CARR-BRIDGE 10-0 RBL AVIEMORE

Carr-bridge completed the 2007 season in blistering form by lifting the Tomatin Cup courtesy of a 10 goal blitz against an unfortunate RBL side.

Instead of being a competition between two psyched-up teams, the game ended up a personal battle between Marcus Forrest and Ian Grant for the title of Carr-Bridge Top Scorer 2007. And as it ended up, the youngster took the crown by a single goal, though Sam Wilkinson did his best to spoil the 2-horse race.

The Tomtin pitch does a Mexican Wave of it own.

In a fairly one-sided contest, played on a midgie-infested late summer evening, Carr-bridge quickly sprinted into a 3-0 lead care of Jules Orris and a Marcus Forrest brace. RBL threatened occasionally, but Carr-bridge missed more opportunities than their opponents took, and the first half ended with Carr-bridge 3 goals to the good.

As the 2nd half kicked off, it became clear that RBL just didn't have enough on the night to stall the black & white juggernaut, and so the Forrest v Grant battle took centre stage. Forrest secured his hat-trick before Sam Wilkinson found himself banging-in 4 goals to end his season on 5. Grant then bagged 2 of his own to take him onto a total of 14, 1 behind Forrest.

Carr-bridge find the net once more.

Then as the clock ticked down, Carr-bridge were awarded a penalty, but normal spot-kick taker Forrest generously offered Grant the chance to end the season joint top scorer, however the evergreen striker hammered the penalty off the bar before the referee brought and end to the game and the season. So Forrest won the crown, but more importantly Carr-bridge finished the year with 2 cups, and let's not forget they only lost the League title by a single point. So all-in-all it was a good season, even if early points dropped ultimately cost us dear.
